Doyle Sails Solent is starting the new year off with another impressive name in UK sailing to join their team. Effective immediately, Ian Barker will be coming onboard as the company's local sales representative.
Barker has been at the leading edge of the international and UK sailing scene for the last 30 years. In that time he has been in the top five of the UK's most successful dinghy racers winning 10 national and two world championships, as well as an Olympic silver medal and no.1 world ranking in the 49er class.
Apart from competitive sailing, Barker has extensive sailmaking and rig experience, as well as coaching and lecturing at all levels of the sport.
"I have been keeping an eye on what Doyle New Zealand have been up to over the last few years because as a sailmaker I'm impressed by the technology they use and the products they produce - which I believe to be market-leading," says Barker. "As a happy coincidence the UK loft has recently been invigorated by new ownership, who I will be joining to bring these fantastic sails to the UK market, particularly in Grand Prix."
"On behalf of Doyle Sails Solent I am delighted to welcome Ian to our team," says Solent loft owner Tom Milne. "As an Olympian, International coach and sailmaker Ian's very successful background is a great match with Doyle, who are designing and producing the most advanced sails in the world. We are already working with Ian on a number of projects and I am certain that the partnership will be a great success for Doyle and all of our customers."
Barker's appointment will further cement Doyle Sails' reputation for market-leading sail expertise and the company's commitment to ensuring that it's clients continually benefit from the knowledge of the best in the industry.
